Deputy Treasury Secretary Adeyemo and Congressman Horsford Hold Listening Session with Business Leaders from Nevada’s Fourth District

NORTH LAS VEGAS, NEV. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV-04) and Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo held a roundtable with small business owners and business leaders in Nevada’s Fourth District to discuss the impact of the American Rescue Plan’s support for small businesses and the benefits of the Build Back Better Act for entrepreneurs.
“Small businesses are the backbone of Nevada’s economy, and our recovery from the pandemic depends on their strength. During today’s listening session, I was glad to hear candid feedback from local business owners and industry leaders about the support they need to rebuild from the profound challenges of the pandemic,” said Congressman Steven Horsford. “Nearly nine months ago, we fought to pass the American Rescue Plan with $50 billion in funding to help small businesses keep their doors open and keep employees on payroll. Today, as we work to pass the Build Back Better Act with $5 billion in additional support, I’m glad that our business community is making their voices heard.”
“I appreciated hearing how small business owners and industry leaders in Las Vegas are utilizing resources and funding provided through the American Rescue Plan to keep their doors open as our economy recovers from the pandemic,” said Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo. “Small businesses in Las Vegas were hit hard during this crisis, and minority-owned small businesses were hit especially hard. That is why Treasury is working to ensure that critical relief funding is reaching the small businesses that need it and providing capital for investments to small businesses and entrepreneurs through the $10 billion State Small Business Credit Initiative program. This, along with the provisions included in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and the Build Back Better Act, will generate strong investments in our communities.”

Background:
In March 2021, Congressman Horsford voted to pass the American Rescue Plan, which invested $50 billion to support small businesses that were struggling to keep their doors open as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this month, Congressman Horsford voted to pass the Build Back Better Act, which builds on American Rescue Plan funding with $5 billion for small firms, including support for direct loans and venture capital funding, as well as support for cooperatives and worker-owned businesses. The bill also dedicates significant funding to support entrepreneurs in underrepresented and underserved communities. Nevada SBA Accepting Nominations for Annual Small Business Awards

The SBA Nevada District Office is accepting nominations for its 2022 small business awards. Previous Nevada winners include All in Aviation, Superb Maids (NV Grow Client) and Crazy Pita.

For more than 50 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has celebrated National Small Business Week (NSBW). These premiere annual awards recognize the achievements of SBA-assisted small businesses and the contributions they make to their communities and to Nevada’s economy.

To begin the process to nominate, email [email protected] or [email protected] with the selected category, name of the business nominated, owner(s) name, email, and phone number. This will allow the Nevada SBA District team to follow up with the business owner and ensure all documents are submitted via the online portal. Businesses may also self-nominate.

 

The Nevada categories are as follows:

Small Business Person of the Year Criteria: Individual or partners who own a small business, which has increased sales, profits and employees, and have been in business for at least three years. Business must have received Small Business Administration assistance.

Exporting Small Business of the Year Criteria: Small business which has increased sales, profits and/or employees due to exporting and has been in business for at least three years. Business must have received Small Business Administration assistance.

Family-Owned Small Business of the Year Criteria: Small business must be family-owned, received SBA assistance and has been in business for at least three years.

Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year Criteria: Small business at least 51% owned by a veteran of U.S. armed forces, received SBA assistance and has been in business for at least three years.

Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year Criteria: Small business at least 51% owned by a woman, received SBA assistance and has been in business for at least three years.

Minority-Owned Small Business of the Year  Criteria: Small business at least 51% owned by an ethnic minority, which has received SBA assistance and has been in business for at least three years.

Young Entrepreneur of the Year Criteria: Individual or partners who own a small business, under 30, received SBA assistance and has been in business for three years.

Microenterprise of the Year Criteria: Individual or partners who own a microenterprise with five or less employees, received SBA assistance and has been in business for three years.

Rural Small Business of the Year Criteria: Individual or partners who own a rural business, received SBA assistance and has been in business for at least three years.

Nevada Legacy Small Business of the Year Criteria: Individual or partners who own a small business, which has increased sales, profits and employees, and has been in business for at least twenty-five years. Business must have received Small Business Administration assistance.

Nevada Entrepreneurial Spirit Award Criteria: Individual or company in Nevada who best demonstrates a pattern of promotional support to entrepreneurial activities and small businesses in the state.

Congressman Horsford Secures $2.75 Million in Funding for Nevada Small Businesses to Aid Recovery from Pandemic

WASHINGTON D.C. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV-04) announced his office secured a $2,750,000 award for the Nevada Business Opportunity Fund. This funding will establish a Revolving Loan Fund (RFL) to provide capital and technical assistance to underserved businesses throughout Clark County.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and while they have made progress in recovery, many are still struggling from the ongoing impact of the pandemic,” said Congressman Steven Horsford. “I’m proud to announce $2.75 million in funding to help Clark County businesses build back better, create jobs, and promote long-term growth for the broader community.”

“I commend Congressman Horsford for fighting for access to capital for small businesses. Anytime we can get access to capital for small businesses is a good day, but during a pandemic, it is the difference between keeping the doors open or closing for good,” said Peter Guzman, President of the Latin Chamber of Commerce.

“Congressman Horsford continues to be a champion for the small, diverse businesses we represent,” said Ken Evans, President of the Urban Chamber of Commerce. “We have businesses who we know will benefit from both the technical assistance of Nevada Business Opportunity Fund and the infusion of capital provided by this Revolving Loan Fund.”

These funds will be a huge resource for small businesses in Nevada. The resiliency of our small business owners are incredible and now that we are moving to get our economy going these funds will help them through the process. Thank you Congressman Horsford for your continued support,” said Sonny Vinuya, President of the Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce.

“Nevada small businesses are innovative and dedicated to achieve. These funds will expedite the transformation of the Nevada economy to withstand the current situation then prosper in the near future. All the resources provided to these businesses will result in a significant return on investment through job creation and overall revenue. This will lead to prosperity for future generations,” said Kevin Raiford, Director of Nevada Grow.

The award will provide $2,500,000 in funds for loans along with $250,000 in technical assistance and administrative funds to help support small businesses who have been economically distressed by the coronavirus pandemic. These funds will provide permanent resources to support economic resiliency, and further the long-term economic adjustment objectives of the region. The funding comes from the CARES Act, which Congressman Horsford voted to pass in March 2020.
